Teachers are faced today with an enormous range of tools that can facilitate learning in various ways that meet the needs of society today. This is especially true when it comes to the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Media. However, as with all principled teaching, chosen tools need to serve the aims of education, and not the other way round. In other words, the aims of education must take priority and the use of technology is only a means to achieving those aims.


Task


In week 7 you will give a presentation (7- 10 minutes) describing a possible lesson where media and technology are being used to promote learning. You will be assessed on both your effective use of media and technology, as well as your rational for using it. You need to demonstrate an awareness of:
  • the role of media in education
  • using technology for learning strategies development
You need to choose one of the following areas to focus on:
  1. the internet
  2. video
  3. social media
  4. web 2.0



Process


  1. Choose a subject that you would like to develop a lesson for. Perhaps your favorite subject at school.
  2. Think of a topic within your subject.
  3. Choose a lesson to teach within that topic.
  4. Find some media resources (video, internet, etc.) which students can use to learn about the topic.
  5. Read the links to sources for teachers below for ideas on how to use and what to consider when using video, internet, social media & web 2.0.
  6. Develop your lesson plan describing your lesson and why you have chosen to do it this way.
  7. Give your presentation in week 9.
